This is especially true for those who have children. But it is expensive and many of us cannot afford it. So, why is it so expensive?

We all know that it has to do with big profits for big insurance companies. That is capitalism at its finest. Add to this the fact that medical treatment is expensive. The doctors and nurses should be paid a lot for what they do. But in addition you are paying every time you use an ice pack or a tongue depressor in a hospital. And why does it cost around $25 for a single pain killer?

All of these costs contribute to why medicine is expensive. We have not even counted the drug industry. The reality is we pay them, whether we pay directly or pay our health insurance company to pay them. This, alone, makes it acceptable. Medicine is a business and businesses are made for profit. This will probably not change any time soon.

The problem with this model is that health seems to be only for those with good insurance or lots of money. Unfortunately, that is the message we get from the health insurance industry, the medical establishment and Big Pharma.

This model of health insurance has given the impression for years that you must rely on others for your health. When you are sick, you must rely on a doctor to diagnose it and write a prescription. If you use holistic health, even though cheaper and just as effective in many cases, most health insurance companies will not pay for it.

Prevention is not rewarded in our current model of health care; not true prevention anyways. Prevention is considered having tests done to catch a disease at the early stages. But prevention is supposed to mean not allowing it to happen in the first place. This is how health insurance companies could cut costs to pass on to their customers.

Health Insurance

Nothing is more precious to us than having good health. Everyday people are getting more aware of the importance of having good health in order to be able to l8ive life to the fullest. But as the saying goes nothing is certain in this world, we will always have uncertainties and surprises good or bad in our life. We do get sick once in a while flu or even some major illness, or get ourselves involve in accidents. What ever the case may be these events when they happen to us could deplete our savings or even push us to bankruptcy. With the rising cost of hospital fees, laboratories and doctors' fees it is now expensive and complicated. This is where health insurance could benefit us all. Yes, health insurance may cost a lot but having no health insurance at all cost more. Medical bills incurred from an accident could burn a hole in your savings. And in cases of cancer treatments, with all the doctors' check ups, laboratory tests, and chemotherapy that one has to go through it could ruin you financially.

Health insurance could help you pay for the cost of a regular medical check ups, surgeries, contact lenses and glasses and even emergency treatments. There are two basic kinds of health insurance plan, the indemnity plan and the managed care plan. Indemnity plan is also called the fee for service plan. It has wider freedom and flexibility in the choices of the insured. He gets to pick the doctor, hospital and laboratory and other medical service provider of his choice. As long as the medical service is included in the health contract. But, the catch is the plan doesn't pay for the entire charges, instead the insured shoulders the 20 % of the payment. This kind of plan covers only illnesses and accidents but preventive care like flu shots and birth control are not included. And coverage of the cost of prescription drugs and psychotherapy will depend on the policy and the company.

Managed Care Health insurance differs from the indemnity plan in a lot of ways. First, choice of doctors, hospitals, laboratories and other medical service provider is

limited to only those who have contracts with the HMO -Health Maintenance Organization--.Medical services is received only if authorized by the plan. If you insist on engaging on non authorized medical service provider then the cost of service or care provided will not be paid by the company. Preventive care and mental health treatment are covered by the plan.

Valuable Health Insurance Quotes

Security and protection are two basic needs that must be seriously considered. Accidents, deaths, injuries and sickness are unpredictable occurrences, however hard we try to avoid them. By accepting the fact that life is fragile and facing reality head on, the best way to face the future is through the use of a reliable and cost-effective insurance plan.

Health insurance quotes are good sources of information when you are thinking of getting an insurance plan for yourself, your family and/or your company. You can surf the internet and find insurance agencies so that you can personally discuss policy provisions with their insurance agents or talk to customer service agents online or via the telephone.

Points to Consider in Choosing a Plan

Before you buy an insurance plan, it would be wise to answer the following questions clearly and completely.

· What is your need?

Choose an insurance plan that will best meet your and your family or company's needs. In addition, it must be one that suits your budget. Moreover, you have to determine what kind of insurance policy you will need.

Basically, there are three major types insurance plans, namely: Individual Health Insurance which is designed for a single individual and that is often made specifically for particular; Family Health Insurance is intended for the self-employed or for persons who work for a small corporation that does not offer health coverage; and Group Health Insurance is for a business owner who wants to help his/her employees acquire health protection.

· How much is your budget?

The second point to consider is your budget. How much are you willing to pay for a health plan and how much can you afford? Do not be deceived by appearances; remember the lowest price does not always guarantee that the plan is offering the best deal. Learn to consult experts and health insurance quotes to get into the details of each plan offered to you. You may consult an insurance agent or insurance broker for the prices and services or benefits that each plan may entail.

Short Term Health Insurance Options

Few will argue that the present state of our economy is by any means good. With elevated levels of those unemployed, coupled with stagnant wages, many households are finding it extremely difficult to pay ordinary bills. Employers, also feeling the pinch from consumer belt tightening, and also facing challenges in remaining profitable. Unfortunately, many of these businesses are finding that they have no choice but to reduce or eliminate the health insurance benefits they provide to their employees.

Employees, who once relied heavily on employer sponsored health insurance, now are confronted with the stark reality that businesses can no longer afford to pay monthly premiums. In fact, recent statistics indicate that just under 45% of employed workers are covered by an employer sponsored medical insurance plan. Where then are these people obtaining their coverage from?

Sadly, many employees that cannot get or afford health insurance through their employer are simply forgoing coverage altogether. These people, which are gainfully employed, do make up a significant percentage of the growing uninsured population. At the present time, just over 17% of the adult population lacks medical insurance. Many economists are predicting that the uninsured population will continue to grow as the world copes with its deepest recession since the Great Depression.

Those that are unable to obtain medical insurance through their employer do have options. Many states across the country do offer assistance to those without coverage. Some of the state assistance programs allow people to temporarily enroll in Medicare, while others offer direct financial aid to qualified enrollees. Individuals which do not qualify for government assistance also have the option of purchasing a short term health insurance policy.

Short term health insurance was originally designed to help people maintain coverage between jobs. But with the employer sponsored health insurance model fading, many people are choosing to obtain their own private insurance. As one would suspect, short term health insurance policies vary in coverage and price. In fact, many of the short term policies being written today also include prescription drug coverage, minimal co-pays and access to wide networks of physicians and hospitals.

Insured vs Uninsured - The Segregation of American Health Care

Everyone, at some time in his or her life, will need to seek medical care. The American health care system is a billion dollar industry, and it discards people that can't afford its services. The current health care system is divided into two groups--health care for the insured and no health care or limited care for the uninsured. The kind of medical and personal care that an individual receives under the current American health care system depends on the person's insurance status. In the land of equal opportunity, segregation is still practiced.

It is a well known fact that people that have health insurance receive much better medical and personal treatment from health care providers than people that don't have health insurance. The insured are treated with dignity and respect. Sadly, the uninsured are treated with indifference and disdain. For uninsured people, obtaining health care can be an extremely demoralizing and frustrating experience.

When a person calls a medical practitioner for an appointment, the first question of the medical office staff is if the person has health insurance. If the person doesn't have health insurance, the attitude of the office staff changes dramatically. A lot of times the person is asked abrasive and invasive financial questions. Cash payment is requested before the visit will be scheduled, or at the time of the visit prior to services being provided. Some medical offices refuse to provide medical care if there is no health insurance and the person is unable to pay cash in advance. Uninsured people seeking medical care face embarrassment because they cannot pay in full for medical services without benefit of a monthly payment plan. They are made to feel like their health does not matter because they are uninsured.

In some hospitals and physician's offices, the type of medical care that is rendered to uninsured patients is much different the medical care that is provided to insured patients. During a personal interview with Carolyn Hagan, an uninsured Oregon resident, it was revealed just how shoddily uninsured patients are treated. According to Hagan, because she doesn't have health insurance, she is unable to obtain the necessary medical care for her heart condition. Hagan stated, "I have so much trouble getting medical care because I am uninsured, and I can't afford the cost of health insurance. I can't afford the high cost of the medical tests that I need. None of the doctors will treat me except for occasional brief checkups because I am not profitable to them. Every health insurance company that I contacted to see if I could get insurance refused to insure me because I have heart trouble. Harris L. In fact, the situation peculiarly resembles that of the 1830s when physicians relied on bloodletting, mercurial medicines, and quinine, even though knowing them to be intrinsically harmful. And precisely the same arguments were made in defense of these medicines as are employed today, namely, that the benefits outweigh the risks. In truth, the benefits accrue to the physician, while the patient runs the risks."-Harris Coulter, Ph.D., (Divided Legacy Vol 3)

There is no question we need reform in the areas of disease elimination improvements in Health, better delivery of health care when it is needed and health insurance parity. Private health insurance offers a large number of benefits, but before you choose a plan it is important that you follow the steps towards private health insurance comparison. When you compare the different plans, you will be able to locate the one that is most appropriate for your needs and is also budget-friendly. The cost of private health care in increasing rapidly and having an insurance plan can come handy when you need it.

There are also other types of plans available such as individual insurance plans and corporate plans, but private heath insurance plans have their own benefits. With a private health insurance plan, you don't have to wait in a long cue to get your treatment done. Moreover, you get your treatment when and where you want. Another advantage is that you get treated in a clean environment and a private ward where there will be no medical interns accompanying your doctor to your ward. You also get to choose which health care professional will treat you. There is a lot of flexibility with private medical insurance, but at the same it is also important to find the right one because not all of them are the same.

Private health insurance comparison basically starts with a research. Although there are so many options available, it is important to compare among them so you can find the best deal. When evaluating the different plans, you must know what things are essential given your health conditions and lifestyle. An important thing that needs to be looked at when comparing private health insurance plans is the deductible. Deductible is the amount that you will have to pay to your doctor or health care professional before you can file for a claim. This will be based on your need to visit the doctor. It is important to consider this factor if you pay regular visits to your doctor.

If you are going to see your doctor often, choose a plan that has a low deductible. On the other hand, if you don't have the need to visit your doctor on a regular basis, choose a plan that is the opposite.

When comparing plans, you must also consider the co-payment or the co-insurance. This amount is the shared amount between your insurance company and you. Your insurance company will pay part of the coinsurance and you will be required to pay the rest. Find out how much or what percentage will be paid by the company. Choose an insurance policy where they are willing to pay a larger portion of the coinsurance.

Importance of Health Insurance Leads

Good return on investment, high contact ratios, innovative systems and tools, and health insurance leads with real interest for insurance, can be mere figments of your imagination when you do not have high quality prospects. Therefore, before you subscribe to online health insurance sales leads, you should do a background check on the integrity of the business you are planning to collaborate with. Additionally, you need to inquire how many times they sell their non-exclusive health leads, as well as where and how they generate these leads. Your objective is to differentiate superior leads from the ones that are worthless.

Health insurance leads are those who desire to be healthy. These are individuals, families, or companies who are looking for medical protection. Additionally, people who already have health insurance that was provided by their company or the government may need additional protection and may be viewed as health insurance prospects.

Insurance leads appear in different forms and quality. A good quality shared leads are people whose information have been sold a maximum of five times. Any more than that would significantly bring down your chance of bagging the sale. It might do you good to shift to a different lead company and avail of exclusive or semi exclusive leads. Another attribute of an excellent lead is that it should be delivered to you in real time. This means that your lead's contact info should be on your hand just seconds away from the time they made the request for a quote. When a certain span of time has passed since they filled out the online form, your prospective clients might have lost interest or found another agent to help them buy an insurance plan.

Furthermore, there are now several online businesses that focus on finding leads and providing their contact info to health insurance brokers. Typically, most of these companies ask for an annual or monthly fee for the health leads, whilst other companies charge a per-lead rate.

Consider Catastrophic Health Insurance Plans

Americans are faced with a wide range of options when it comes to choosing a health insurance policy with each plan designed to meet the needs of families and individuals based on income and the amount of coverage required. However, even the most basic coverage can be out of reach for some families, particularly if they are out of work.

The economy today has resulted in thousands of people either cancelling their policy out of necessity, which is risky and could prove to be much more expensive in the long run, or reducing the premium to the absolute minimum. For anyone finding themselves in this situation a catastrophic insurance policy could be the answer, whilst paying for routine medical care might seem unnecessary it is minimal in comparison to the expense a serious accident or illness can entail. Here are a few of the benefits of having such a plan to protect you and your family.

Catastrophic health insurance plans are perfect if you want to keep your insurance premium as low as possible but require coverage for any treatment needed when it comes to significant medical issues.

You'll hear this type also called high deductible insurance as you pay a higher than normal deductible than you would with a conventional insurance premium. With your insurer you agree to cover your own medical costs up to the deductible amount which could be anything from $250 to $2,000, in the event the deductible is reached the insurance company then covers the rest.

Deciding to switch to catastrophic coverage will result in much lower premiums, in some cases between 25 to 50 percent. However you're then responsible for your own routine health care costs including visits to the doctors' and any medication you might need, as you are contributing to the cost of your health care they can lower the cost of your premiums.

The final decision of which type of health plan to buy is all down to your personal needs and what fits in with you and your family's lifestyle. As long as you look after yourself and get regular check-ups to ensure you stay in the best of health you'll be more than happy with the low monthly premiums and the amount of money saved monthly can then be put aside until you have the deductible required.

The Evolution of Health Insurance

Health insurance for individuals was first developed in the early part of the 20th Century. Hospitals began offering patients a pre-paid service in the 1920's and it meant patients could pay upfront for any future medical costs or hospital stays. By the 1930's the Blue Cross organization was formed. The Blue Cross is now made up of 39 authorities who are thought to provide insurance plans to over 100 million American citizens.

During its initial stages health providers involved with the Blue Cross were only able to offer a service by which a small premium was paid yearly for hospital care or a fixed amount for specific diseases. Now it has evolved into a major service provider and most companies can offer individual insurance plans which cover emergency procedures, preventative medicines and also the routine cost of the majority of prescription drugs. Although not all companies will cover all services, comprehensive coverage should cover the majority of all costs associated with medical care.

Individual insurance is the primary source of coverage for most American citizens and nearly 60 percent of the population have it in some form or another. Public programs make up the remaining, which is primarily for low-income families and senior citizens who meet the criteria.

After recent health reforms made by the government in 2010 a new act which is thought will be in effect by 2014 means that every American must be suitably insured or they face having to pay a fine. This is in response to the public dissatisfaction with the private insurance companies which have been raising premiums for those with pre-existing medical conditions to excessive rates and excluding some from being covered. Now under the new policy it means that health insurance for individuals is to be made available to all and insurance providers should not discriminate or charge elevated premiums for those with pre-existing medical conditions. However the government also announced that by allowing all citizens to partake in having health insurance they would now have to have it by law.

Although health insurance is namely described as something that covers medical expenses there are other forms of health insurance for individuals that cover other areas of health. It could include but is not limited to, coverage for disability income, dental, accidental death or injury and vision insurance, although major medical insurance is still considered to be the most common form of coverage purchased.
